Regatta Prep

Regatta preparation is an all volunteer endeavor organized by our team parents. The mission is to provide food and refreshments for all the athletes, coaches and visiting family members for the day.

Regatta prep is a huge tailgating party on the riverside!

Basic menus include healthy food and drink choices. Hot breakfasts are served along with coffee and hot chocolate for early morning arrivals. Hot lunches are provided. And snacks are available throughout the day.

There are many opportunities to volunteer for different jobs; set up, grilling, clean up, hauling the "chuck wagon", etc.
And all team families sign up to bring some food donation for the day.

Regatta Survival Tips:

Layers, layers and more layers. The mornings are cold, the afternoons can be hot, and sometimes we get rain.  An extra layer of socks are good to have. Hats, ear muffs, gloves, hand and feet warmers can be handy at the start of the season.

We have had excellent weather for the last few seasons, but if rain is in the forecast, bring rain jackets, pants and rain boots. The river banks can be muddy even when it’s not raining.  Bring towels and keep a change of clothes in your car to insure it stays dry. You don’t want to drive home in wet clothes.

Bring your portable chairs. One for yourselves and your rower(s).

Sunglasses and Sunscreen. Whether it’s March or May, you can get sunburn – and windburn.

Bring toilet paper. Portable bathrooms are the only facilities available at regattas (with the exception of Overpeck Park in Leonia, but you still need to BYO toilet paper).

Bring binoculars and cameras.

Reading material, crossword puzzles, homework, knitting, etc. come in handy.

General parking on top of the hill at Philly costs approx. $10-12, so have some cash handy.

Bring your crew team contact information spreadsheet with you. You may need help finding our tent and you will be able to reach someone who knows how to get you there if you have a copy of the team spreadsheet..

All athletes must be in Westfield Crew wear or colors at all times at all regattas.

See you at the rivers!
